What is Vocation

Vocation and Formation

Our local Statutes define vocation as a desire instilled by God through the Holy Spirit concerning ones way of life through which a person is inspired to respond to a fundamental question regarding his or her existence – What is the meaning of my life?

Vocation to Religious Life

Vocation to religious life is a way of responding to this call by a radical following of Jesus Christ by taking the vow of chastity, poverty and obedience in a Religious community following a particular Charism.

Vocation To Contemplative Life In A Cloister Carmel is one way of living Religious life in an enclosed monastery with prayer as the only apostolate and mission. It is to live with a passionate love of God that enables the person to embrace the whole world in prayer. It's a way of life which can be summarized in the words of St. John of the Cross.

My soul is occupied
And all my substance in his service;
Now I guard no flock
Nor have I any other employment:
My sole occupation is love.
-Spiritual Canticle Stanza XXVIII

How do I know if I have a vocation to Religious life?

If I cherish a dream of doing something beautiful for God it could be a sign that God also has something special for you. The first and most important sign is that I have liking towards Religious life and have a desire to know more about religious life. Today the youth enjoy lot of good and beautiful things of the world and enjoy a lot of freedom. They have lot more career opportunities and possibilities opened before them. In spite of it all some feel emptiness within and a longing for something deep. There is a restlessness God has put within which only he can satisfy.

When you become sensitive to this you take a step to consult with someone, either a priest or a religious or some experienced person who will guide you. The very fact that you are browsing through this web page is itself is an indication that you are on a search. You are most welcome to contact our Vocation Directress and get guidance.

I ask myself: -
